Chicken Nugget was a long time stray in Kayenta. Volunteers had fed him for years, but he was skittish and would not come near them. Thankfully over time he gained some trust with the people feeding him. Earlier this year they noticed that Chicken Nugget seemed to be losing weight, and that he had visible injuries including a crooked jaw, and a head tilt. One volunteer, Britt, resolved to rescue him as soon as she had the space to take him in.
After Nugget was rescued, Britt noticed that he was not able to eat normally out of a bowl and he seemed to have something stuck in his jaw. She also found a hard lump under the skin of his shoulder. Dr. Holgate was able to remove the foreign material that was embedded into his gum, noted a fractured tooth, and that his nose was angled to the side and his jaw did not align. He also had the pellet removed from his shoulder. Afterwards, Nugget was able to eat and drink normally again. Chicken Nugget had a very challenging life before being rescued. He is one of the very few that was able to survive that long living on the street.
Once Chicken Nugget was in a foster home with Britt and Jason, he fit into their household in surprising ways. He became best buddies with another of their dogs, Trevor, who previously did not like other dogs. These 2 BFFs took to sleeping together. Having a canine buddy opened up a whole new world for Trevor. And certainly, Chicken Nugget world expanded in the best ways. He received wonderful care, got to sleep on a bed, and had lots of new adventures. Chicken Nugget blossomed as part of a loving family.
After giving Trevor some time to insure it would continue to work, Britt and Jason realized that Chicken Nugget was a part of their family and they adopted him. Big thanks to Britt and Jason for everything they are doing for Chicken Nugget. We are thrilled to see his antics and the good life he is enjoying.
